Home-Start Runnymede and Woking
There for parents when they need us most...
Because childhood can't wait
Fundraising Appeal
- We need the help of our community to keep our services running
- Statutory funding has been reduced significantly due to local authority cuts and the situation at Woking Borough Council
- Over 600 families in need have accessed our support in the last two years
Update – January 2024
We are grateful for the response to our appeal that we have received from the local community and grant funders. We are asking our local community to continue in their support to ensure we are able to support local families in need.
Demand for our services remains very high, yet statutory funding has been cut and we have had to reduce staffing levels. Whilst we have funding bids being considered by local and national funders, and hope to work with other charities to bid for future family support contracts, it can take many months for the outcome of those bids to become known. That is why we are continuing to ask for fundraising support and donations, to keep us operating at the level our community needs us to.
Because childhood can’t wait.
Supporting a wide variety of communities
The scheme covers a wide variety of communities within both boroughs, including Sheerwater & Maybury, Goldsworth Park and St. Johns in Woking, wards within the most deprived 30 per cent of wards nationally. Woking also has a substantially higher proportion of children who are Children in Need with “Abuse or Neglect” as their main presenting need than the Surrey average.
Supported 600 families in the last 2 years
We have been assisting local families for nearly 30 years and have worked with over 600 families in the last 2 years, supporting over 800 children through volunteer befrienders, professional family support workers and group sessions.
Since 2021, the number of families needing our support in Runnymede & Woking for everything from dealing with multiple births, responding to health diagnoses to managing family conflict, has doubled. Of the families supported so far this year, over 90 per cent reported making progress thanks to the support provided.
How you can help
Donations can be made through our online Total Giving page, or by contacting us directly.
We also welcome support in raising awareness through social media and word of mouth.
“Our volunteer was such a great listener and it felt like meeting an old friend every week. Something we all looked forward to and really needed. We will never forget what they did for our family and the time we needed it the most”.
“I’d always been too scared to go to baby groups but the team at Baby Bubble are so welcoming and encouraging – I feel really comfortable here. I feel so much better since I started coming. And my baby loves it too! I don’t know what we’d would do without it.”
